Course Descriptions

Joy of Improv
Discover the fun and freedom of improv in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Whether you want to build confidence for work presentations, break out of your shell, or simply try something new, this class is the perfect place to start. Through engaging games and playful exercises, you’ll learn how to listen deeply, think on your feet, and connect authentically with others—skills that go far beyond the stage. No experience is needed, just a sense of curiosity and a willingness to play. Begin your improv journey here and unlock creativity, confidence, and joy in every part of your life. Prerequisite: none Offered in all sessions.

Performance Workshop
Step into your first improv team experience and bring your skills to the stage! Over eight weeks, you’ll collaborate to craft and rehearse a full-length, 2-hour improv show—curated and hosted by Dave, your guide and creative coach. This immersive workshop blends teamwork, showmanship, and real-world performance, helping you build confidence, sharpen your instincts, and connect deeply with your cast and audience. Ideal for improvisers ready to level up, perform regularly, and make the leap from class to stage with expert support and guidance. Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent. Offered in our Spring session (March-April).

Special Effects
Dive deep into physical storytelling—becoming the props, sound effects, and wild imagination behind every scene. From following a potato chip through the digestive tract to spinning planets in space, you’ll stretch your creativity beyond the usual and think way outside the box. Learn to use your body and voice to create hilarious, unforgettable moments—no props needed. Perfect for improvisers ready to unlock new levels of physicality and imagination, making every scene come alive in surprising ways. Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent. Offered in our Fall (September-October) session.

Scene Study
This class is for improvisers ready to drop the gimmicks and show up real. You’ll dig into emotional honesty, character point of view, and relationship-driven scenes that crackle with truth—and yes, comedy. Build confidence in your instincts, trust your voice, and create work that’s compelling, funny, and fully alive. We’ll explore tools like status, vulnerability, genre, absurd logic, and emotional truth through playful reps, smart feedback, and scenes that stick with you. This is where you stop “trying” to be funny—and start becoming the artist you already are. Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent. Offered in our Late Spring session (May-June).

Scene & Scroll
This fast-paced elective bridges the gap between live performance and digital comedy. In Scene & Scroll, you’ll create grounded, character-driven improv scenes and transform them into TikToks, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Whether you're an improviser looking to explore sketch or building your brand or just want to play in a new format, this class helps you sharpen your improv skills and connect with a modern audience. Tech Requirements: Students will need a smartphone with a working video camera to participate. No Actual social media required! Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent. Offered in our Winter session (January-February).

Team Spotlight
This invite-only workshop divides participants into teams that rehearse and perform two exclusive shows each. Across four weeks, your team will sharpen its chemistry, timing, and style with focused coaching and real audience feedback. It’s the perfect opportunity for committed groups to build their identity, collaborate deeply, and take center stage with confidence. Offered in our Holiday (November-December) and Summer (July) session.

Characters and Games
Get out of your head and into someone else’s shoes. Build a toolbox of over 20 classic and original improv games, learning how different types of games—guessing, physical, word, vocal, genre—call for unique approaches. Dive deep into crafting unforgettable characters from the inside out and outside in. Using vocal shifts, physicality, emotional range, and strong points of view, you’ll learn to make bold choices while staying grounded. Explore archetypes, accents, emotions, and energy shifts with exercises inspired by the Groundlings’ “Five Through the Door,” helping you create and play characters fast and with confidence. Perfect for improvisers ready to broaden their gameplay, stretch their range, and bring the funny to every scene. Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent. Offered in our Winter session (January-February).

Genres & Impressions
In this 4-week elective, you’ll master the art of style, voice, and iconic characters. Explore genres from noir to sci-fi, perfect your impressions, and learn how to bring bold, truthful choices to every scene. Stand out as the improviser who can do it all—versatile, confident, and endlessly surprising. Ready to own the stage? This is your edge. Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent. Offered in our Fall (September-October) and Late Spring (May-June) sessions.
