Scene Study

This class is for improvisers ready to drop the gimmicks and show up real. You’ll dig into emotional honesty, character point of view, and relationship-driven scenes that crackle with truth—and yes, comedy. Build confidence in your instincts, trust your voice, and create work that’s compelling, funny, and fully alive. We’ll explore tools like status, vulnerability, genre, absurd logic, and emotional truth through playful reps, smart feedback, and scenes that stick with you. This is where you stop “trying” to be funny—and start becoming the artist you already are. Prerequisite: Joy of Improv or equivalent.

LAB.png

Production Lab

Improv Production Lab is an advanced workshop designed for improvisers who want to learn how to Produce a unique improv show. This lab combines hosting, producing, directing, and performance into a single, hands-on experience. Students will explore how improv nights are structured, how to run a room, how to introduce and transition acts, and how to shape tight, audience-ready sets. The lab runs in two distinct tracks: 1) Host/Producer Track: A small cohort focuses on hosting and producing an improv show while also preparing their own 10-minute performance sets. Students in this track act as the show’s MCs and curators, shaping the overall flow of the night. 2) Performance Track: A larger group participates in a directed Game Lab, receiving coaching, developing new games and workshopping ideas with producers and rehearsing towards a polished, show-ready performance. Students may enroll in one track only. Each track has different responsibilities and learning objectives, and separating the roles ensures a clear, professional production experience. The class culminates in a fully produced public improv show, hosted and performed by students in the lab.

Longform Foundations:

The Eventé

Explore the Eventé, a form pioneered by Armando Diaz. Built around a single event (like a party or a blackout), Eventé is a natural, semi-narrative improv form. We’ll dive into crafting interconnected scenes, exploring themes, and telling a story that evolves in real time.
